hedflux collage 350pxGreetings traveller, and welcome to my homepage. My name is Steve Young aka Hedflux, and I make groovy psychedelic bass music.

I started this project back in 2006, inspired by an unrelenting curiosity to fuse the magic of high-end psychedelic trance with the versatile bass grooves of nu-skool breaks. After much tinkering and perseverence, a fairly distinctive new style started to emerge from the chaos, a style which I think is best described as psychedelic tech-funk.

Neurodriver - Man Made (Hedflux remix) OUT NOW

ManmadeBack in March of this year, Dom Smart aka Neurodriver asked me to remix his slamming techno tune "Man Made". I wanted to do something which treaded a fine line between techno and breaks, so I created a beat using a much softer snare drum than usual. It's almost half way between a kick and a snare, I used a low cut kick drum layered with a few percussive attack noises and a finger snap (from my own fingers). After establishing the groove with a deep minimal bassline, the track just fell into place and was complete after 3 sessions.

The crisp techy sounds from Neurodriver were  effortless to work with, I cut them up, sliced, reversed, pitch-shifted and timestretched them in Ableton to produce a series of complex call & response phrases.

The end result was something which I think is fairly unique in style and content. It has received widespread support from some unexpected places, including the mighty HYBRID who said "this is the most rocking tune we've heard all year! More of this please!" :)
